Instructor bio:

Ben Garnett is a guitarist-composer whose work bridges the worlds of string band traditions, jazz, classical, and experimental acoustic music. A graduate of the University of North Texas in jazz guitar, he is known for his imaginative ensemble writing and genre-defying approach to the instrument. His latest album, Kite’s Keep (2025), showcases cinematic, ensemble-driven compositions featuring leading voices in acoustic music, following his debut album, Imitation Fields (2023)—produced by Chris Eldridge (Punch Brothers)—which blends electronic textures with virtuosic acoustic instrumentation. An active bandleader, Garnett tours widely with his own group, and has also performed internationally with Missy Raines & Allegheny and Circus No. 9 at the Grand Ole Opry (Ryman Auditorium), Big Ears Festival, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, Rochester Jazz Festival, Philadelphia Folk Festival, and beyond. As an instructor, he’s passionate about helping others explore their musical identity while embracing both innovation and emotional authenticity.
